Hello Sunshine - Reese Witherspoon's Production Company has a Full Slate for 2020 and Beyond.


Reese Witherspoon has cemented herself into the next decade of media content with her now well-established Production Company, "Hello Sunshine". With the launch of her Book Club in 2017, Witherspoon has spent the last few years building an established audience through her reader-base, elevating the position of the Books straight to the New York Time’s. With a slap of a Sticker, book prices soar and start to appear on every Best-Seller List, but that’s not all. The Books that perform well, are then quickly optioned for movie and TV series right through her now prolific Production Company, Hello Sunshine.


The goal of "Hello Sunshine", which was launched in 2016 in association with Otter Media, was to produce and release female-driven stories through film, television and other media outlets. In addition to producing content, Hello Sunshine also operates Reese’s Book Club where it pulls up and coming content from the front lines and automatically snagging the rights.

Hello Sunshine is adamant about its leadership principle, all projects must be written, produced by and starring women with Reese Witherspoon on-board every project as the Executive Producer. Witherspoon has also become associated with her projects, more often than not, appearing as one of the main leads in series such as “Big Little Lies” and “Little Fires Everywhere.”

Since the launch of Hello Sunshine, Witherspoon as grabbed the rights the following books to bring to screen:

Series/Movies Based on Books Production List:

1.. The Luckiest Girl Alive - Jessica Knoll

(snagged in 2016, rights may expire)

The Book was first released in 2015, by Jessica Knoll and was one of the first works options by Hello Sunshine shortly after in 2016. Although no real updates have been announced regarding the Films rights, Reese is set to executive produce the work.


Luckiest Girl Alive is a mystery that follows the story of Ani FaNelli who, as a teenager, suffered a shocking and public humiliation. Determined to correct the wrongdoings of her past, and desperate to to re-invent herself, Ani secures the perfect New York job, snags a wealthy blue collar fiance and an expensive wardrobe. Convincing herself she now has a perfect life, she beings to become unhinged as the trauma of her past seeps into present day.



2. Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine - Gail Honeyman

The novel, released in 2017, is a story of an out-of-the-ordinary heroine whose deadpan weirdness and unconscious wit make for an irresistible journey as she realizes the only way to survive is to open your heart.


Although the rights have been grabbed, no other updates have been made at this time.



3. A White Lie based on the Book “The Gilded Years” - Karin Tanabe

Based on the book named "The Gilded Years," the series has been adapted into "A White Lie." The story centers around a light-skinned African-American woman that convinces the admissions board at Vassar College that she's Caucasian in order to attend school there.


Zendaya was attached to the project for the last few years, but as of Fall 2019, she has dissociated from the project. Release Date and Shooting Timelines TBD



4. Truly Madly Guilty - Liane Moriarty

The book comes from the same author as Big Little Lies which received critical acclaim in 2016 when it was released and reached more audiences in 2017 when the series premiered on HBO.


"Truly Madly Guilty" is follows three married couples that attend a BBQ together in Australia that goes horribly wrong. All three families are left to deal with the repercussions of that night.


5. From Scratch - Tembi Locke

Slated for a release on Netflix, the book "From Scratch: A Memoir of Love, Sicily and Finding Home" stars Zoe Saldana in the lead, as the story follows the story of an American woman who falls in love with a Sicilian man while studying abroad in Italy.


Saldana has been attached as the lead for quite some time. Originally thought to be released as a limited series on Netflix in 2020, the production has not yet started.


6. The Thing About Jellyfish - Ali Benjamin

Released in 2015, marking the author's debut, "The Thing About Jellyfish" follows Suzy, who looses her best friend in a drowning accident. Convinced that the true cause of the tragedy must have been a rare jellyfish sting, Suzy retreats into a silent world of imagination, she crafts a plan to prove her theory--even if it means traveling the globe, alone.


Mille Bobby Brown is set to star as the lead once production gets underway.


8. Daisy Jones & The Six - Taylor Jenkins Reid

Although the novel was in 2019, the rights to the book were grabbed up prior to its release. Starring Riely Keough, Suki Waterhouse, Camila Morrone and Sam Claflin, "Daisy Jones & The Six" follows a look-alike Fleetwood Mac Band that rose in fame in the 1970s.

9. Legally Blonde 3

Little Plot Details have been released so far, but Reese Witherspoon is set to reprise the iconic role of Elle Woods in the next few years, on the big screen of course.


Although the series has already started filming and was set to be released on Prime Video at the end of 2020 or early 2021, production has halted due to the coronavirus concerns.

10. Kin

The series has been pitched and picked up by Starz as a television series. "Kin" will center around three generations of women who are pushed together when the dynamic and controversial matriarch arrives back in town. The series is set to focus on themes of racial identity and integrity. Release date TBD


11 . Tinker Bell

In the era of re-boots and live action re-makes, Disney has green-lit another spin-off focusing on the popular pixie from Peter Pan. No release date of production timeline, be Reese is rumored to play the lead herself.
