Trailer:
It’s no secret that Demi Lovato has struggled with sobriety, in fact there are plenty of documents referring to her fight and perseverance to get sober after she entered rehab at the age of 19. After six years of sobriety in the public spotlight, Demi Lovato relapsed in July of 2018. While her struggles with alcohol and drugs had been advertised and printed for profit, she has kept quiet on the issue in the past few years despite clues left for fans in her songs like 2018's "Sober" and 2020's "Anyone." The Documentary "Dancing with the Devil" allows Demi to share her side of the story, for the first time.
For the first time since her 2018 overdose and they have made it clear, nothing is off-limits. During the early episodes of the doc, Demi opened up to the cameras and detailed the entire event as well as her uses leading up to that night. Following its debut last week at SXSW, Demi has addressed the rumors that came out about it and set the record straight on how she is planning to move forward.
The first two, twenty-minute, episodes were released on the site this morning as well as additional commentary between Demi and the Director. The following two episodes will be released on Tuesday’s on a weekly basis.
What to Know About Demi’s Latest Doc, “Dancing with the Devil”
1. The Footage in the First 2-Episodes Was From their 2018 Tour
There is very little left out of the documentary which premiered on YouTube this morning and the depths that they were able to explore is due to the footage that they had been capturing years before on her “Tell Me You Love Me World Tour.” Unsure how they were going to use the footage, the filming and project was put on hold after her near-fatal overdose in the Summer of 2018. During quarantine in the Spring of 2020, Demi felt confident enough to step forward and address allegations and rumors using the old footage for extra impact
2. Demi Originally Re-Lapsed in March 2018 After 6-Years Sober, 4-Months Before her Near-Fatal Overdose
After being congratulated on stage on her 6-Month Anniversary of Sobriety by DJ Khaled, Demi admitted to using less than a few weeks later. The songstress had infamously gone to rehab for drugs and alcohol at the age of 18 after a break-down during an International Tour promoting “Camp Rock 2.” Since 2012, Demi had worked hard and publicly endorsed her sobriety. Following a trip to Bali, she wrote the song “Sober” just a month and a half before the overdose
3. Demi Admitted to Heroin and Meth Use in the Documentary
While the overdose occurred in the early hours of the morning on July 24th, Demi admitted to using cocaine, heroin and meth along with recreational use of Xanax and other medications. Demi admitted that she didn’t know she was addicted until her was away from Heroin for a few days while on vacation. While she kept her drug use from her family, close friends expressed their concerns a few weeks before the relapse that put her in the hospital.
4. Demi Suffered Strokes, Vision Loss and Heart Attacks Following Her Hospital Stint
Due to the severity of her overdose, Demi admitted that when she first woke up in the hospital, she couldn’t see. After recovering, she still has limited vision and is unable to operate a vehicle because of it. The loss causes black spots to cloud her vision.
5. Demi Was Taken Advantage Of by Drug Dealer the Night of Her Overdose
While no named were stated, Demi confessed that she had been taken advantage of by her drug dealer the night of her overdose. Between the hours of 5:30 AM and 8:00 AM her drug dealer visited her home and supplied her with a drug laced with fentanyl that caused her to be rushed to the hospital. Once she was in recovery and awake, doctors asked if she had had consensual sex, at first admitting yes, Demi later voiced her concerns stating that there was no way she was in a state to make that decision
The first two-episodes of the documentary are very heavy and are not meant to be taken lightly, but to provide insight into the spiral she found herself in, unable to escape. The final two parts are set to air in the next few weeks, shedding light on the after-math of 2018 and where she is now and how she can move forward.
Demi's song "Dancing with the Devil" will be released on Friday, March 26th and her sixth Studio Album "The Art of Starting Over" will be released on Friday, April 2nd.
And that’s the sitch.
