"Normal People's" Paul Mescal Joins Maggie Gyllenhaal's Directorial Debut with "The Lost Daughter"

Future is looking bright for up-and-coming star, Paul Mescal. Coming off his Emmy nominated performance in “Normal People”, Mescal has officially joined the cast for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Directorial Debut with her project “The Lost Daughter.”

Also slated to join the project are Dakota Johnson, Olivia Coleman, Jessie Buckley and Peter Saargard who will be working alongside Irish newcomer Paul Mescal in his feature film debut.

The Project’s premise centers around Olivia Coleman’s character, a college professor who summers seaside and becomes consumed by her daughter’s actions on the beach, flashing back in time to reflect on her life as a new mother. Becoming overwhelmed by unpleasant memories of an earlier time, Coleman’s character is forced to confront her past decisions and deal with the consequences even many years later.

The project marks Gyllenhaal’s first feature film as Director and will be produced with previous collaborators Talia Kleinhendler and Osnat Handelsman-Keren where they worked together on “The Kindergarten Teacher.” No word on production timelines, still in the casting phase, but would expect us to see this hit in late 2021 at the earliest.

Mescal has made headlines with his raw performance in Sally Rooney’s Adapted Limited Series “Normal People,” which marked his first televised performance. Previously, he had only worked on stage in the U.K. Coming off of his first Emmy nomination for his first ever performance has earned him the buzz that he deserves.

Can’t wait to see his next projects.

And that's the sitch.
